Arrival & departure
Nukus airport and railway station transfers
By arrival time
Connect your arrival in Nukus with your hotel or arrange a departure pickup. This can also be coordinated with the start or finish of an Aral Sea itinerary.
Provide arrival details and luggage needs; expedition and transfer timing are confirmed together.
City walks & local experiences
Savitsky Museum guided visit
Flexible museum visit
Explore the Savitsky Museum's art collection alongside Karakalpak applied arts and ancient Khorezm heritage. A guide helps connect the exhibits to the collector and the region that shaped the museum.
Confirm the guide language, opening hours and available galleries; particular artworks may not be on display.
Karakalpak musical-instrument workshop visit
By appointment
Visit the tradition of instrument-making in Nukus through an arranged artisan encounter. Azatbay Otarbayev's workshop is documented for traditional string, wind and percussion instruments.
The maker's availability and any demonstration are confirmed; an evening concert is a separate request.
Day trips
Mizdakhan, Gyaur Kala and Chilpik
Half or full day, by route
Explore Mizdakhan's necropolis and the neighbouring Gyaur Kala ruins, then visit Chilpik south of Nukus. The route links different periods of settlement and religious life in Karakalpakstan.
Specify the Gyaur Kala by Mizdakhan: other sites share this name. Allow time for exposed and uneven walking.
Muynak ship cemetery and museum
Full day
Make a return trip from Nukus to the former fishing port of Muynak. The stranded ships and local museum introduce the environmental history of the Aral Sea and the communities around it.
This visits the former shoreline, not the present water's edge; museum opening is checked before departure.
Overnight trips & longer routes
Aral shoreline, Ustyurt and Sudochye
2 days / 1 night
Travel by 4×4 from Nukus through the Aral region, combining Muynak with the remaining shoreline and a yurt overnight. The route can include Ustyurt scenery and Sudochye Lake.
Expect long stretches on rough roads and basic camp facilities. The exact route depends on weather, tracks and camp availability.
Three-day Aral and Ustyurt photography route
3 days / 2 nights
Allow more time for the Ustyurt cliffs, remaining Aral shoreline and the landscapes around Sudochye. A longer route can include the Barsakelmes salt landscape with departures and stops planned around the light.
The local Barsakelmes stop is not the former island in Kazakhstan. Exact tracks, overnight locations and photographer-guide availability are confirmed.
Onward transfers
Nukus to Khiva private transfer
By agreed route
Continue from Nukus to Khiva by private vehicle. Chilpik or a broader fortress route can be requested when you want to add sightseeing to the travel day.
Direct travel and sightseeing versions have different timings; stops are agreed before departure.
Nukus to Urgench airport
By flight time
Arrange an intercity departure transfer from Nukus to Urgench airport. The journey is timed around your confirmed flight rather than an assumed standard airport pickup.
Send your flight number and departure date; allow for road conditions and airport check-in.
