Afrosiyob and Sharq trains: routes, classes and getting a seat

Where Afrosiyob and Sharq run

Afrosiyob serves the Tashkent–Samarkand–Bukhara and Tashkent–Samarkand–Qarshi corridors, confirmed in the operator’s 29 August 2026 account. A separate 19 March 2026 notice schedules Shahrisabz services from 27 March on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Check the actual date: brand names do not establish every intermediate stop.

Sharq is the seated alternative on Tashkent–Samarkand–Bukhara. The operator’s 710/709 notice gives the intermediate Samarkand stop. Its “from 9 September” change dates from 2025; it is a dated route reference, not a new September 2026 announcement.

For Khiva, search beyond these two names. The railway’s 29 July 2026 report identifies Jaloliddin Manguberdi on Tashkent–Khiva via Samarkand, Navoi, Bukhara and Urgench. The 7 September 2026 notice adds a different CRRC-Dalian train between Bukhara and Khiva. Calling either service “Afrosiyob to Khiva” makes the search harder.

Read the journey time for your own leg

For the actual trip, use Tashkent–Samarkand, Samarkand–Bukhara and Bukhara–Khiva. Search the exact station pair and compare arrival time as well as minutes aboard. The Khiva report’s whole-route duration is not the duration from Bukhara.

Calculate your hotel-to-hotel day separately: transfer to the station, station entry, boarding, rail journey and transfer to the next hotel. A later fast train can leave less useful sightseeing time than an earlier slower one. Treat an arrival after midnight as the next calendar day when booking accommodation.

Economy, business or VIP?

Afrosiyob has economy, business and VIP seating, plus a bistro carriage, as described in the railway’s 26 May 2022 equipment report. The February 2026 tariff below still distinguishes those three classes. The carriage guide separately identifies Sharq seating, four-berth compartments and open-plan sleepers.

In all three classes, the train has air conditioning and a continuous low floor; there is a bar-buffet and equipment for serving food at seats. These are features in Talgo’s 30 May 2019 Afrosiyob description, checked 14 September 2026. Check the services listed in your order to see whether your fare includes a meal.

Your purchase is for the selected train, class and seat or berth. Inspect the layout and service icons before paying: the booking instructions, checked 14 September 2026, display extra catering and bedding where applicable. A class label by itself does not establish a particular menu, lounge entry, Wi-Fi quality or an airline-style baggage service.

We recommend economy when the seating arrangement suits you and a short journey time is your main priority. Compare business if the displayed layout gives your group more useful space or a preferred seating arrangement. Choose VIP only after checking the extra cost against the actual seat and service description. All classes on the same departure reach the same station together.

How much are the tickets?

The railway announced these Afrosiyob prices on 16 January 2026, effective 1 February. They are published tariff references, checked 14 September 2026, not an available-seat quote. Compare the final total in the railway order before paying; use the same route, passenger type and class when comparing sellers.

The notice gives no Sharq fares between specific cities. Check Sharq and intermediate-leg fares in the date-specific order. When paying with an overseas card, your bank’s exchange rate and charges determine the amount debited.

When do Afrosiyob tickets go on sale?

The official offer, section 3, checked 14 September 2026, states a 60-day opening at 10:00 local time, calculated from the train’s originating station, and reserves the carrier’s right to change it. For Uzbekistan departures, plan around 10:00 Tashkent time (UTC+5), then confirm the date the booking calendar actually releases.

Before opening time, sign in, prepare passenger details and list acceptable departures and classes. Compare the date on the website with your own calendar rather than treating “two months” as sixty days. If boarding a through train after midnight at an intermediate station, its originating departure date may be the previous day.

Why does Afrosiyob look sold out for two months?

An unavailable date, a train absent from results and a listed train with no seats are different situations. Check the travel date, station pair and sale window first. Then inspect other classes and departures. A blank result alone cannot tell you whether the cause is demand, timetable loading or a website problem.

The operator’s 4 April 2026 statement, checked 14 September 2026, attributes quick sellouts on some routes to holiday and weekend demand and identifies official websites, apps and ticket offices as sales channels. It does not promise a five-minute sellout on every train or prove that all unavailable seats have been booked by agencies.

Returns and unpaid orders expiring are reasons to recheck: these processes are described in the railway FAQ, checked 14 September 2026. Seats may become available again, but the material reviewed gives no guaranteed reopening time. Do not apply an alleged “72-hour quota release” to Afrosiyob.

Try the same route again later, another departure that day, the reverse city order or an adjacent date. If a suitable Sharq or sleeper is available, weigh securing it against waiting. Before cancelling a fallback, check both the replacement and the refund conditions; a place displayed during a search is not yet yours.

Foreign cards and the station ticket office

The official purchase guide, checked 14 September 2026, lists Visa and Mastercard among payment options. That establishes a supported network, not a successful transaction for every overseas issuer. Use the payment methods currently offered in your order and have your bank’s verification method available.

After a failed or interrupted payment, inspect your orders and bank activity before trying again. Save the order reference and error message. A bank debit without an issued ticket needs resolution through railway support; it is not proof of a reserved seat. The money guide covers cash, ATMs and cards outside this purchase.

The operator’s sales statement also confirms ticket offices as an official fallback. Take the passport you will travel with and a written list of dates, stations, passenger count and acceptable trains. Ask what is available and which payment method the counter accepts. A cashier can help with the search; no source promises a separate reserve of Afrosiyob seats.

Tashkent Central and South: the station trap

Tashkent Central is also called North or Severny; South is Janubiy or Yuzhny. They are separate stations. The railway’s 2023 temporary-change notice demonstrates that trains can be reassigned between them; those historical diversion dates are not instructions for your trip.

Show your driver the full station name on your ticket and save its map pin. Do not choose the station from “Afrosiyob” or “night train” alone. Recheck any service-change message. For an arrival from the airport, start your connection calculation after baggage collection and arrival formalities.

Allow time for the actual journey to the station, security and finding the carriage. A food stop, ticket-office visit or left-luggage collection needs its own allowance. Keep your passport and ticket accessible rather than packed deep in a suitcase.

Luggage aboard and storage in Tashkent

The passenger rules, paragraphs 65–66, allow up to 36 kg of hand luggage per full-fare or child ticket and prohibit oversized items exceeding 180 cm in the sum of three dimensions. Pack so you can move your bags yourself. Use the carriage’s designated luggage spaces and ask the attendant where a large case belongs; a weight allowance does not reserve an individual rack. Keep passports, medication and small valuables with you. Check unusual equipment with the carrier before choosing a train.

The station operator lists baggage storage among its facilities, and its service list lists luggage storage as a paid service; both were checked 14 September 2026. For Tashkent Central or South, confirm the storage room’s location, how charges are calculated, opening hours and collection deadline at the actual station. A network-wide list is not proof of a staffed counter at every hour.

Our recommendation for a sightseeing stop is to settle luggage storage before leaving the station. Keep the receipt and establish whether collection involves re-entering a security-controlled area. If the opening hours do not cover your return, arrange a confirmed bag drop with your accommodation instead.

Food on board, station meals and seats for views

Afrosiyob’s bistro carriage is documented in the railway’s equipment report; the operator’s station overview describes a restaurant and café at Tashkent Central. These confirm the facilities but do not provide a current menu or guarantee opening hours. Check your selected carriage’s description to see what catering is included.

Bring water and food you know suits you, especially for an early train, children or a dietary restriction. If buying on board, check the menu, price and payment method before ordering. Do the same on Sharq: do not plan a meal solely from the train’s name. Buying food before heading to the station avoids making a tight departure depend on a kiosk being open.

For views, our recommendation is a daylight journey and an available window seat. We have no verified operator evidence for a permanently better left or right side, or for scenery guaranteed by a seat number. Prioritize sitting together and a comfortable arrangement; do not give up a workable departure for an unsupported scenic-seat claim.

Avoid planning to leave the train during an intermediate stop to buy food. Its timetable is for the train’s operation, not a guaranteed shopping break.

When Sharq or a night train makes more sense

Choose Sharq when the departure, arrival and final price work better for the day, or when waiting for Afrosiyob would force changes elsewhere. Compare the extra rail time with what you actually lose: a later fast service can still reach your hotel later. Inspect the carriage before committing.

For an overnight option, the railway carriage guide distinguishes four-person compartments, open-plan sleepers and two-person SV compartments. Choose the berth and sharing arrangement deliberately. Saving a hotel night has less value if poor sleep leaves you unable to use the next morning.

Check the overnight arrival date, hotel bag drop or early check-in arrangements and the time left for sightseeing. Do not schedule a fixed activity at the exact time the train arrives. On Khiva routes, compare the new daytime electric service and Jaloliddin Manguberdi as well as a sleeper.

Fit the booking choices into the 7-day, 10-day or 14-day itinerary. Secure the journey with the least date flexibility first, then fit the easier legs around it.
