01
Which trains should you look for?
Search the two stations and your date on the official railway platform, leaving the train type open initially. The national tourism portal identifies Afrosiyob on this central rail corridor. Compare it with other results by the actual Samarkand departure and Bukhara arrival, seat or berth, and price for your party.
There is a newer through service to check as well. Uzbekistan Railways’ 29 July 2026 report confirms that Jaloliddin Manguberdi, on the Tashkent–Khiva route, stops at both Samarkand and Bukhara. The report establishes those stops; it does not establish a bookable seat for this shorter leg on your date.
Sharq is another name to investigate. An operator notice for September 2025 shows train 710 continuing from Samarkand to Bukhara. We have not carried its old departure times into a September 2026 timetable. Use the current result to decide whether it fits.
A train can start in Tashkent or end beyond Bukhara and still serve your journey. Select the Samarkand–Bukhara segment explicitly; the train’s full-route headline is not the departure time or ticket you need.
| Option | Useful comparison | What remains date-specific |
|---|---|---|
| Afrosiyob | Check its arrival against your Bukhara plans and the other available trains | Departure, journey duration, class, fare and seats |
| Jaloliddin Manguberdi | A through service with published stops at both cities | Whether the shorter segment is on sale and its actual times |
| Sharq / another conventional train in the results | Consider a departure that uses your day better, including the accommodation cost of a very late arrival | Current service number, seat or berth, arrival date and fare |
02
Samarqand and Buxoro-1: save the exact station pins
In Samarkand, search for the railway station, not the airport or a ticket agency. Yandex’s station listing places Vokzal Samarqand at Abu Rayhon Beruniy Street 3. Match the place and entrance with your driver, then obtain a route estimate from your actual accommodation.
At the other end, Bukhara Biennial’s Uzbek directions identify Buxoro-1 as being in Kogon, also written Kagan. Your railway arrival therefore needs a separate journey to a hotel in Bukhara’s old city.
Send your pickup provider the station name, train number and arrival date. For accommodation inside the historic area, ask the property for its entrance pin and the closest point a vehicle can use. Agree how you will cover any remaining walk with luggage.
| Name you may see | Meaning for this leg | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Samarqand / Samarkand / Самарканд | Your railway departure city | Save the station entrance, then arrange the hotel-to-station journey |
| Buxoro-1 / Bukhara-1 / Бухара-1 | The railway station in Kogon/Kagan | Arrange pickup there and onward travel to your Bukhara address |
| Bukhara old city / Eski shahar / Старый город | Your sightseeing or accommodation area | Send the hotel entrance separately; it is not the railway station |
03
Compare hotel to hotel, including the parts outside the train
The rail journey is only one part of moving between the cities. Build the day in this order: collect luggage → reach Samarkand station → complete entry checks and board → travel by train → leave Buxoro-1 → reach the accommodation and check in. Meal breaks and time before the room is ready may change when sightseeing can begin.
For each suitable train, write down when you must leave the Samarkand hotel and when you expect to be ready to go out in Bukhara. A shorter rail ride can still produce a less useful day if it requires an awkward hotel checkout or leaves you waiting for a room.
For a private car, request an estimate for the complete route between the two agreed addresses, with stops listed. Compare that with the complete rail plan. We have no measured hotel-to-hotel journey or dated vehicle quotation to turn into a universal driving time.
- Rail cost: tickets for every traveller + transport to Samarkand station + Buxoro-1 pickup + any disclosed booking-assistance fee.
- Car cost: the whole vehicle for the agreed route, with luggage capacity, waiting, stops and any extra charges specified.
- State the unit of every quotation. A price per seat and a price for the whole vehicle are not directly comparable.
- Compare an early or late arrival with the room arrangement it requires. Saving on the ticket may create an extra accommodation cost.
04
Book the segment and retain the issued ticket
The railway’s purchase guide describes choosing stations and date, then train, class, seat, passenger details and payment. Use our Uzbekistan train-booking guide for the full process. On this leg, give particular attention to the intermediate boarding station and arrival date.
The Uzbek public terms describe sales opening at least 60 days before departure from the train’s starting station, at 10:00 local time, while reserving the carrier’s right to change the opening date. Checked 13 September 2026. Treat this as published policy, not proof that every service or class will appear then.
Choose a payment method the checkout actually offers and check the charged currency and total. The operator’s list of payment networks does not confirm that your card or account will work. If a payment appears unresolved, inspect your order status and bank record before making another payment. An attempted charge is not your travel document.
- Search Samarqand → Buxoro-1 for the date you will board in Samarkand; select the station suggestions from the list.
- Compare every result that meets your needs. Check the journey’s arrival date, especially around midnight.
- Choose places for the whole party and enter each traveller’s details exactly as in the travel document.
- Read the final total and cancellation conditions before paying. Keep any seller’s service charge separate from the railway fare.
- Save the issued ticket offline and check its route, date, train, coach and place. A payment screenshot alone does not replace the ticket.
- Only then confirm the station pickup and give your accommodation the expected arrival time.
05
If the preferred train does not appear
Check the station pair, boarding date and active filters first. Then compare another departure or nearby date if your hotel plan permits it. Distinguish an empty result, a listed service without places, an error page and a failed payment: these observations do not all describe the same problem.
Use the official ticket office or railway support to clarify a persistent problem. If asking an intermediary for help, request the exact proposed service, total cost, assistance fee and delivery of the issued ticket. A request for assistance does not reserve a place.
If your date cannot move, compare another bookable train with a car quotation. Do not purchase a longer ticket and assume you may board later in Samarkand without confirming the carrier’s conditions. Plan changes should produce a valid ticket for the journey you intend to make.
Set up the phone and connectivity needed for your chosen booking and pickup method before departure; our SIM/eSIM guide explains what to check. Keep the ticket and contact details available without mobile data.
06
Departure checks and the first hour after arrival
The operator’s Uzbek terms recommend presenting your ticket and the matching identity document at the station checkpoint at least 30 minutes before departure. That is an operator recommendation, not a hotel departure time or a guarantee that this will allow enough time for every queue. Add your actual journey to the station and extra time for your group’s needs.
Check the electronic-registration and document instructions on your own ticket. Keep its PDF offline and take a paper copy if you want a backup or the stated conditions require one. Ask in advance about assistance with steps or heavy luggage; the existence of a station does not establish a step-free route to every coach.
At Buxoro-1, follow the exit signs and the meeting arrangement you agreed. Before getting into a vehicle, match its details with the order or confirm the destination and total price directly. If you cannot find an arranged driver, use the saved contact rather than choosing a new meeting point without telling them.
Send the accommodation your updated arrival estimate if the journey changes. After settling in, use the Bukhara city plan to choose a short outing or save the main visits for the next day.
- Before leaving the room: travel documents, ticket, charged phone and charger are accessible.
- Before boarding: confirm train number, direction, coach and place against the ticket.
- Before arrival: have the Buxoro-1 pickup details and hotel entrance ready offline.
- If arriving after midnight: confirm the correct hotel night and access arrangement in advance.
07
When a private car earns its place in the plan
A car suits a specific requirement: collecting everyone at the accommodation, carrying the group’s luggage in one vehicle or making agreed visits between the cities. Specify the vehicle capacity and any child seat or mobility needs when requesting the price. A vehicle with enough passenger seats may still need a separate luggage check.
Raboti Malik offers a short architectural stop to discuss with the driver. The official tourism account dates its origins to the eleventh century and describes the surviving portal, ruins and nearby sardoba water reservoir. Confirm access and safe stopping arrangements for your date; do not expect an intact furnished palace.
Gijduvan is a different choice, centred on pottery. Decide whether you want to browse finished ceramics, observe a demonstration or take part in an activity. Those are different requests; obtain a confirmed workshop appointment, duration and charge for the one you want.
For either stop, ask for the route, additional driving, time at the site and expected Bukhara arrival. A roadside pause and a hosted workshop need different allowances. If the transfer day already contains a substantial visit, leave the first Bukhara evening light.
08
Protect the sightseeing time on both sides
Choose which city receives the useful part of transfer day. A morning departure can leave time in Bukhara after check-in; a later departure can preserve a Samarkand morning if luggage storage and the station journey are arranged. Neither automatically supplies a full sightseeing day.
The Samarkand two-day plan assumes two full days. If you leave after breakfast on day two, use its shorter version; the morning before departure does not provide a full second day. Likewise, arriving in Bukhara after dinner does not count as the first full day in its two-or-three-day plan.
For a hypothetical arrival at 01:00 on 16 October, immediate hotel access generally requires an arrangement covering the night of 15–16 October. A booking starting on 16 October may provide a room only later that day. Confirm the property’s terms; this example is calendar guidance, not a universal check-in policy.
09
Continue the route or ask for selected help
Our 10-day itinerary and 14-day itinerary place this leg in the main city route. For the previous journey, use Tashkent to Samarkand; for the next, compare Bukhara to Khiva.
If combining trains on the same day, check the whole sequence, station names and consequences of missing the second departure before paying. A published arrival time is not a connection guarantee. Staying in Bukhara creates time for the city itself as well as a less tightly constrained onward plan.
OxusRoad can help with station transfers, a private car with agreed stops, guides or a wider itinerary. Send your travel date, number of adults and children, luggage, both accommodation addresses and the services you want. For a train pickup, add the issued train number and arrival date. The response can then address a concrete journey and its price.
Common questions
Which station does the train reach in Bukhara?
Check the ticket for Buxoro-1, also written Bukhara-1. It is in Kogon/Kagan; arrange a separate journey to accommodation in Bukhara’s historic centre and save the hotel entrance pin.
How long does Samarkand to Bukhara take?
Use the exact train result for the rail duration, then add both station journeys and boarding time. For a car, request a hotel-to-hotel estimate with every stop included. This guide did not obtain a current dated booking result or measure a road journey.
Is Afrosiyob the only train worth checking?
Leave the train-type filter open. Compare other suitable results, including Sharq and the Jaloliddin Manguberdi through service when the segment is offered. Choose by the complete day, class and final price rather than by name alone.
Can I visit Raboti Malik or a pottery workshop on the way?
Request a car itinerary with the exact stops, access, visit time and extra cost agreed. A Gijduvan demonstration needs a confirmed host arrangement; a train’s intermediate station stop does not provide time for such a visit.
Should I travel in the morning or evening?
Decide which city needs the usable part of the day. Compare luggage arrangements, checkout, the booked departure, Bukhara check-in and the next morning’s plan. For a very late arrival, confirm pickup and the correct hotel night.
